Advertising in regional media in Costa Rica: how to advertise in your area

If your business serves one part of the country, a regional outlet reaches your audience with less waste than a national campaign. This guide shows which Costa Rican regional outlets publish information for advertisers and how to ask the rest for rates. The details come from each outlet’s official site, checked for our regional guides. The outlets publish in Spanish.

Why advertise in regional media

  • Your audience is there. A restaurant in Liberia or a hardware store in Ciudad Quesada doesn’t need to reach the whole country.
  • More affordable prices. A spot on a national channel costs hundreds of thousands of colones (see how much advertising costs); regional outlets often offer smaller packages.
  • Local trust. Regional outlets cover what happens in each canton, and that is why their audience follows them.

Outlets that don’t publish rates

In Guanacaste (La Voz de Guanacaste, Guananoticias, Noticias Guanacaste, Guanacaste FM and others), Limón (Caribe Actual, Limón Hoy, CTV Limón) and the Southern Zone (PZ Actual, TV Sur · Canal 14), outlets don’t publish rates on their sites. Write or call them: their contacts are on their official sites, linked from each profile.

How to ask for a quote

  • Say what you want to achieve: visits to your store, calls, online sales or awareness.
  • Ask about monthly packages. They almost always cost less per ad than single spots.
  • Ask for numbers: readers, listeners or followers, and how they measure them.
  • Ask about VAT (IVA, 13%) and, on news programs, the Journalists’ Association stamp.
  • Ask for an electronic invoice and agree on how to confirm the ad ran.
