Media in Puntarenas and the Central Pacific

Puntarenas is the country’s largest province: it runs from the Gulf of Nicoya and the port, through Esparza, Jacó and Quepos on the Central Pacific, down to Osa, Golfito and Coto Brus in the south. This guide presents the outlets based in the province that we verified in the directory of Puntarenas media, and where to find news from each area.

Digital outlet: Puntarenas Se Oye

Puntarenas Se Oye presents itself as “the province’s leading digital outlet” and, according to its site, has operated since 2015. It publishes crime, politics, health, tourism, entrepreneurship, sports and weather, with sections dedicated to Puntarenas and to regional news from the Central Pacific, and its own series, “Porteños con valor”.

Radio: Radio Bahía

Radio Bahía broadcasts on 107.9 FM and, according to its site, has been on the air for “more than four decades” as a pioneering station of the Pacific and the Caribbean. It has two signals with different programming, Radio Bahía Puntarenas and Radio Bahía Limón, both members of the Cámara Nacional de Radio. Its 24-hour programming includes local, national and international news, sports, opinion and music.

Jacó, Quepos and Esparza

On the Central Pacific we found no active local outlets with their own site when preparing this guide. News from Esparza, Garabito (Jacó), Parrita and Quepos appears in Puntarenas Se Oye’s regional section and in PZ Actual’s Central Pacific section. In English, The Tico Times publishes stories on Jacó, Quepos and Manuel Antonio.

Southern Puntarenas

The cantons of Buenos Aires, Osa, Golfito, Corredores and Coto Brus have their own guide: see the media of the Southern Zone, where PZ Actual organizes its coverage by canton.
